    Computer woes

I've been having trouble with my poor MacBook Pro. It keeps slowing down and freezing on me. I took all my PSD files off, thinking I was maybe running out of space, but it's still doing it. So tomorrow I'm faking my baby to be looked at. I am so not happy, I will have to leave my baby there! Keeping my fingers crossed that it won't take too long!! Sorry if I can't be around much, I haven't even been able to do much in the way of commenting. Hopefully it will come home soon

Sorry to hear this, Anke! I know you use your computer constantly so it is really hard to be without it!

I hope you'll update us after you find out what the problem is and I hope it is an easy fix. My laptop is also the 17 inch Mac Book Pro (purchased back in 2008). It is getting slow, too. Not crashing, but, it is slow. I love it because of the larger screen but Apple isn't even making a 17" screen laptop anymore. I need a laptop for travel and haven't bought a new one yet because the new one would have a smaller screen. I know the day will come when I have to replace it.

Oh, that must be hard for you. So sorry, hope it is nothing serious. Being without laptop is like living in the prison.

I'm using my dh's old 17"MBP also, circa 2007 and heavy, while I dogsit.

In computer land, that's pretty darn old. It isn't very fast unless I have one program only open, and the screen is nowhere as clear as current models. However...it works fine for me when I am traveling by car. Too heavy for air travel for me. I do keep it really clean (i.e. cleaned out ) and run Disc Utilities periodically to keep it 'tidy'. I would not even consider storing such large files as my psds on it.

Kathryn, here's a SITE that has advice (Mac and PC and ignore the ads unless you want to buy). If you google 'how to clean your pc' there are many other articles. Because I worked on government PCs for 20+ years, I was diligent about keeping my computer clean as my work depended on it and I didn't want the IT people to have to take it away for any repairs if I could avoid it.

One of the things I enjoyed doing on a PC that is not necessary on a Mac is DeFragging - #5 in this article. If I had lots of phone time ahead, I could do it while listening to someone drone on. It's like the old PacMan games watching all the colors resort themselves. LOL

"Defragment your hard drive. Fragmentation basically is when your computer's files get disorganized, hurting your computer's ability to lay data out sequentially. Defragmentation is the correction to this process.
For Windows: click on My Computer, then click Properties, then click the Tools tab. From this tab just click on the Defragment button and then run the program. You can set it up so that your computer automatically defragments at set intervals."

Well, turns out it's probably the hard drive, so I won't get my baby back until next week. They are ordering a new one and hopefully he will be able to clone it with the old... man do I want to scrap!!!

Must be time to dye Easter eggs and sing in your church and take a zillion pictures of your ever so fast growing up children! It's hard having a computer problem...feels like one of your chicks is missing! Wishing you and your MBP the best!
