Santa may tuck a macro lens under our tree!!

I have a feeling that Santa might be thinking of a Macro lens to tuck under our tree on the 25th. I need help writing my Santa letter . . . what advice do you have for the perfect lens for my Canon D50 camera?

I'll let you know if I have a package under the tree . . . guess that all depends on whether I'm naughty or nice, doesn't it?

I'm so happy for you, Mollie! I've been wishing for one of those, too. I'm sure you've been a good girl this year.

Oh yay Mollie! I am so excited for you! I don't know if the lens I have fits yours but I love my Tamron 90mm macro. It's half the price of the Canon. Of course the Canon lens would be the best choice but that's all I could afford at the time. Maybe Santa can afford the Canon for you...

I have used the Sigma 180mm f/3.5 Macro Lens but that has a hefty price tag!
I've heard good things about the Tamron Jean recommended and also about a Sigma - 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS Macro Lens

Oh that is exciting Mollie! Sorry I can't be any help here - I am still on a steep learning curve with my first ever DSLR, so will be reading along with you about everyone else's advice.

Mollie, I would have to think you'd be right up at the top of Santa's good list. It's as good as in the bag

Mollie, Santa brought me the Canon 100 f/2.8 for Christmas last year and I love it! I had been very good, so he let me use it early. It is on my camera most of the time. Love it for portraits too.

    That's exciting!
I heard good things about the Canon 100mm and it's on my wishlist. Poor me, we don't do presents with Christmas.

Have lots of fun with your lens!

I have a Tokina 100mm macro lens and absolutely love it. Performs better on stats than the standard Nikon and is way cheaper.

I have a 60mm Canon macro that I love for the fact that it is little and extremely lightweight and works wonderful with my Canon 50D. I would however recommend getting something with a longer reach if you are interested in close ups of things like flowers, insects etc. I have to get too close with my camera to my subject, so I would prefer a larger zoom for my macros but that is based on what I like to shoot. if you are doing portraits etc with your macro, then a shorter range is definitely better.

It's my favorite lens too! Have it a year now and it's on my camera very often. I have made photos in a dark shop last February and even without my external flash I got such nice results.

I remember loving the 60mm macro lens too, but I had to sell it, because my current camera doesn't support EF-S.

I shoot Nikon, but my 105 mm f/2.8 macro is my FAVE lens, and it's on my camera most of the time. LOVE it!
