Default Drawing a Solid Line and/or Dotted LinePSE7

Hello, hoping someone can help. I am wanting to draw a line to a person in a photograph from a text box along side the photo. I have tried using the "line" tool but evertyime I drag, even holding the "shift" key when I drag the line it makes a "shape". I have tried resetting the tools and restarting the program and selecting only the "line" in the Line tool drop down menu. After mastering this, I would love to know how to make a "dotted line". Note: I also have made sure that I add the new layer over the photo before trying. Again, I am using PSE7. Thanks in advance for your help.

Check to see what the line tool weight is set at. Make sure it is set to pixel (px) and not inches.

If you want to draw a line, you can also just select a small round brush (probably 10-20 pixels). Then hold the Shift key as you click-drag on a blank layer. Once you've drawn it, you can rotate it if needed.

To make the line dotted, do it the same as above, only select the "brush options" in the options bar and adjust the Spacing setting to something higher than 100%.
