Default PSE 5.0 - Dashed Border

Hello...

In Photoshop Elements 5.0 I've created a banner 500 x 135 pixels with text inside it.

When I save that banner it has a solid border around it.

What I'd like is a dashed border (a "coupon" look with dashes all around.)

How do I create a dashed border for my banner?

Thank you!

You can make a dotted line fairly simply by selecting a hard round brush, choosing the "more brush options" in the options bar and changing the spacing to 200%. Then you can hold the shift key as you click-drag to draw a straight line with the brush. It will created a dotted line.

If you want dashes, you could make your own brush of a rectangle shape and then use the same process described above.

Thanks for your suggestion, Cassie - cool idea.

After trying your suggestion with the brushes it still leaves a "bounding box" with straight line border (in addition to the dashes). The dashes sit within the bounding box area.

Here's a sample of the box. (The box was created by going to New > Blank file > and then the width/height/etc. dimensions.)

As you can see, bounding box is a solid line (rectangle).

I need the bounding box to be a dashed line all around the rectangle with no solid line at all.

Thanks again for your suggestions!

I'm out of town so I don't have my computer to check this in the software. I'm not sure why you're getting a border at all. Are you creating a text box? Those don't generally have borders. If you were using PS this could be done with a path very easily, but it's not a technique that is possible in PSE. Maybe there is a custom shape or border element in the store that would meet your needs.

I think you are just seeing the edges of your canvas here. Your canvas needs to be bigger to see the dashed border you are adding.
After you add the dashed border, select all of your layers in the Layers Palette and drag them onto a new (bigger) document.
