Default resizing pre-made templates

Is it possible to resize a pre-made template? New to digital scrapbooking and have quite a few 12X12 templates that I have downloaded and would like to use as a 8x8 or 8.5x11. Thank you for any input you can give me.

Resizing to 8x8 is a snap. Just go ahead and design your layout with the template as it is. When you are all finished and it is merged or flattened, just do an Image Resize from 12x12 to 8x8. That's all there is to it.

Resizing to 8.5x11 is much trickier because you can't take a 12x12 and just resize to 8.5x11. If you did this everything would be distorted. I've never done it so can't speak any more specifically than that about it!

Using for 8.5 x 11 page - You can go ahead and use the 12 x 12 to compose the layout, then resize to 8 x 8 and bring it onto an 8.5 x 11 page, but will need to add another background and maybe more elements to fill in around the sides. Or depending on the design of the template, you can use it full size and chop off the overhang on the 8,5 x 11 page.

I've converted quite a few templates to 8.5x11. Yes, it depends on the template. Some templates have most of the elements in the middle and I simply crop the background. Others I shrink to 8.5x8.5 and then add something in the space - some journaling, repeated elements from the template (eg extra frames), a photo blended into the background or just leave the space!
I'm prone to fiddling with templates!
