Default Template help PSE7

I want to make a template with 7/8 inch squares (7 across & 10 down) on an 8 1/2 x 11 paper. I want to be able to lay the template over a layer and have the layer below show through the squares but I don't know how to do it. I'm frustrated. Does anyone have a link to a tutorial or know how I could do this? Thanks Norma

Norma,
Just create an 8.5x11-inch document. Duplicate it and turn off the layer visibility of the bottom layer. Get the Rectangular Marquee tool and drag out a 7/8 inch square. Press Delete or Backspace. Repeat with the remaining squares.
Save it as a .png.
