I would love some help with this as well. I checked the DDKNB, and tried to play along, but PSE6 for Mac seems different.

I actually get confused between styles and actions. I thought you couldn't use actions in PSE.

Can anyone explain this to me?

I bought Anna's curled edges, and love it, but it came with a .ASL file that I have no clue about. I just use the curled edges and ignore the .ASL file. Should I be doing something with it?

Befuddled,

Lynn

I just recently bought them to0 and used them in a recent LO but they didn't curl properly. I saw that file in there as well Lynn. Ok all that to say, I'd like an explanation too. I use PSE 6 running Vista

i have PSE6 and i have a PC. i think i do this correctly, but i just look around until i find other files in the PSE program that are the same file type, then drag the ASL file (or whatever file it is) from the unzipped folder to the program file. (I don't really know anyone who uses PSE, so i have to look around and click things to find them...all my friends use PS or PSP, so they don't always know how to help me!) here's how i get to the proper folder: go to My Computer, C drive, Program Files, Adobe, Photoshop Elements 6.0, Presets, Styles. all of the ASL files were in there, so i dragged and dropped the new ASL file into there. for example, i accidentally erased a couple of the drop shadow actions that came with PSE, so i bought Katie's drop shadow actions and popped them in there. however, i have to do "show all" under the options sidebar to find them...to add brushes you buy/download, go to the same folder, but instead of "Styles" choose "Brushes". brushes seem to be ABR file types. however, i don't know how this whole process goes on a Mac, but thought i'd share how i load new styles.

Ok, I put the .asl file where the others were, but nothing different showed up in my styles in PSE.

Maybe Mac PSE6 is different? Adobe seems to like to hide things and make them byzantine and difficult to figure out.

With every version of PSE they are making it increasingly difficult to install third party styles and such. It took me a long time and a lot of searching on the web before I figured out how to add styles and such to PSE6 on my mac... here's a previous thread about where to install .asl files on a Mac using PSE6:

So frustrated - I need help with Katie's Drop Shadow Styles

I hope this helps!

Default found instalation path for PSE 6 MAC leopard system

Close PSE

After you download the action from Panos website the file should unzip and you will have 3 folders. Open "OoB_PSE6". Inside you will have two folders on "Action and Thumbnails" folder and the other "XML" folder.

Open the "Action and Thumbnails" folder.
You should have 4 files in the Action and Thumbnail folder
PanosFXOoB1.atn
PanosFXOoB2.atn
PanosFXOoB1.png
PanosFXOoB2.png
Follow this path. Drag and drop the 4 .atn and .png files:
Mac HD (name of the hard drive) \ Library \ Application Support \ Adobe \ Photoshop Elements\ 6.0 \ Photo Creations \ photo effects \

Then Open the "XML" folder.
You should have 2 files
PanosFXOoB1.xml
PanosFXOoB2.xml
Follow this path. Drag and drop the 2 .xml files:
Mac HD (name of the hard drive) \ Library \ Application Support \ Adobe \ Photoshop Elements \ 6.0 \ Locale \ en_US \ Photo Creations Metadata \ photo effects \

Then follow the following path:
Mac HD (name of the hard drive) \ Library \ Application Support \ Adobe \ Photoshop Elements \ 6.0 \ Locale \ en_US \
Then delete “MediaDatabase.db3”, a new one will be created when you reopen PSE.

Reopen PSE6

So glad you figured it out Janna_NJ! So I should stop reading these threads late at night, since I just realized you were talking about .atn files, which I really haven't played with.

However, that thread I just posted above about installing .asl files should help you out Lynn!

And one of these threads should help you, Angela:

Where to put Brushes and Drop Shadows in Vista?
Help for Katie's Drop Shadow Styles?

Ok I just did the ones from cofee shop and hers also work
but to make sure you see you have to go to effects palette and click on third picture
of photo effects and click show all

so in the case of her actions you just follow the instructions for png and psd
but in case you get also xml you do the second part !
Finally mistery solved !
