Smile frame question for a card

I am wanting to put a digital frame on the cover of a 5x7 folded christmas card. If I use any digital frame, can I adjust it to 5x7 or will it be distorted. Also, for my christmas card I am supposed to account for a .25 inch bleed line - since it is a folded card. Any suggestions on how to make sure it is within that? I guess the frame actually needs to be smaller than 5x7.

(I am a mac user - cs4).

Hi Lori!

To resize a .png frame:

Get the Move tool and drag the digital frame onto your card document.
Select the Frame layer and press Cmd + T.
Move your cursor to the corner of the frame. Hold the Shift key as you click and drag the corner toward the center of the frame to make it smaller.
Holding the Shift key will maintain the aspect ratio so you don't get distortion.

To account for the bleed:

Select View > Rulers.
Position your cursor over the ruler on the left and click/drag toward your document.
A guide will follow your cursor. Position that guide .25 inches from the left side of the page. Repeat to make the guide for the right side.
Position your cursor over the ruler on the top. Click/drag downward toward your document to create the horizontal guides.
These guides do not show up when you save/print.
You can select View > Clear Guides to remove them.

Awesome! Thank you for answering my 2 questions. Setting the rulers on my card is going to be such a big help instead of me eyeballing from the rulers on the side. It was soooo easy to setup, too bad I didn't ask before.

Can you change the color of the guide? It is mint green - I would love it to be black, so I can see it really bold.

Thanks again!!!

Yes, you can change the color of the guides. Get the Move tool and double-click on the green guide. This brings up the Preferences. You can change the color of the guides in the section at the top - making it any color you like.

Alternatively, you can select Edit > Preferences > Guides Grid and Slices to activate that Preferences dialog. After you choose the new color, click OK and you should be set.
