Default Bridge errors from backup hard drive

My external hard drive died a couple of weeks ago. I had it backed up, so I didn't lose anything. I had everything organized with keywords for Bridge. I was using my back-up for the last couple of weeks, but I finally got a new hard drive so that I have a back up again. I just copied the files over to the new hard drive. Using this hard drive, I can't do keyword searches in Bridge. The keywords are still shown on the files, but searching never finds anything.

Has anyone had a problem before? I am not relishing the time it's going to take me searching the internet tonight to find the answer to what I'm doing wrong, but even more horrifying is the thought of going back to a time that I didn't have keywords.

Beckie, it sounds as though your cache in Bridge is just not rebuilt from moving the files. They keywords are written to the metadata of the files but Bridge just hasn't read them yet to know that they exist.

I had this problem when I moved from Bridge CS3 to CS4 but a simple rescan to rebuild the cache and everything showed up proper again.

Two things you can do:

Go to your main folder where you now have your files located & in Bridge go to Tools->Build & Export Cache ->Build 100% Previews. This will cause it to search all your files pulling in the keywords and then your searches should work again fine.

or

In your search or collection selection criteria, check the "Include Non-indexed Files (may be slow)" and that will scan all your files recreating the cache as well to find the files & pull the keywords in.

Thanks for the help Heather. It is working finally, but I did have to do a couple of other steps:
I was running out of memory and so I had to up my space allowed in preferences, and I ended up having to manually delete the folder BridgeStore where the cache was and THEN rebuild the cache. Now it is working again. I rebuilt the cache about three times before it did work, but I am optimistic about the future

Glad to hear it is working again. In the preferences under cache, there are also 2 options - 1 to purge the cache & 1 to compact the cache. They are useful for helping keep the cache clean & purge it if you need to rebuild it ever.
