Default recoloring white stitches

I've noticed on the some of the team's layouts that they've recolored white stitching. Now, usually for recoloring I use hue/saturation but that doesn't work for white.. or does it? Just curious how it's been done!

Target your layer and click the black/white circle icon in the Layers palette. Select Solid Color and choose the color you want for your stitches, click OK. Then clip that solid color to your stitches layer. Play with the opacity/blending modes of the color layer to fine tune the look.

Thank you! I've been trying to find a better way to do that.
