Default layers missing

I have never done this before, but really need help. I'm on a crunch schedule and every time I bring in a new layer the previous layer disappears, which means no layers, not a good thing. I am new with CS3 extended. What is happening? It is also locking every layer. This worked fine last night, but not today. Can anyone help?

In your toolbar check Window>Arrange and make sure its set on Cascade. This might be the problem.

Thanks, I think that worked. The other thing that has been driving me crazy is that every layer I bring is is automatically locked. It wasn't doing this before, just today. Any suggestions on that?

Thanks again,

Luell, background layers are always locked. To unlock it you can double-click on the name of the layer in the Layers Palette. This highlights the layer name and allows you to change it. Type in a new name then click outside the name box to accept the change.
Your layer will then be unlocked.
