Default I am so excited!

I received this email today. I was really suprised since I had forgotten that I even submitted this photo. I hope it's okay to toot my own horn. I was just excited and wanted to share with some people who appreciate photography. I got a half-hearted "that's good" from my family. LOL

"Hi Melissa,

Congratulations on being our December 2007 Digital Photo Academy assignment winner! We loved your "Home for the Holidays" image (attached). We have advertised on our website for the past year that all of the winning images will be displayed in various venues around the country in a gallery showing. Your image is one of twelve outstanding pictures that caught our eye--and soon will be available for all to see!"

Well, I'd say that's exciting! I'd be over the moon with excitement! I can see why it was chosen. That is a totally gorgeous and outstanding photo. Good for you!

Congrats! How exciting! Tell us a bit about how you set up your shot? How did you get your child to sit so still!? :-)

Thanks ladies! This was one of those impulsive shots. If I had planned it, it probably would not have turned out as well. It was so long ago that I do not really remember the details but I think I was just playing around with my 50mm lens. I just dropped my shutterspeed down to like 30 or 40 to allow enough light for exposure. (and no, I was not using a tripod, Yikes!) As for my child, he is just really sweet about posing for me. He has a such a sweet and quiet nature about him, and will try his best to do anything I ask of him. I don't really feel like I can take any credit for this photo turning out well. It was one of those shots that just worked. If I tried to recreate it, I probably couldn't, so I was pleasantly surprised with the email I received.

Very cool! Love the photo no matter how you got it, it is a great shot, and framed wonderfully. So with you on the family not saying much--I think my 5 year old granddaughter gets more excited by my projects than anyone else. LOL LOVE it. Will you be able to see it on display???? THAT would be cool as well.

Wow...an absolutely amazing photo. The lighting is just beautiful. I can't believe you didn't use a tripod and it came out so clear. That's incredible. Congratulations! This photo is definitely deserving of some recognition.
