Default camera remote timer?

Does anyone use their timer to take photos?
Does anyone use a remote self-timer?
What about a digital/wireless timer?

I have never used anything other that the little timer button that is on my camera (Canon digi Rebel). Now I would love to take photos of the grandchildren, and not have to look through the view finder all the time. Also, I would love to actually be in some photos MYSELF for a change . My family will never know that I existed from the number of photos that I am in. I am sure that is the case with most of us!

If you use a remote and are happy with it, or wish you had a different one, I would love to hear from you.

I have always owned a remote as it really is needed for long exposure night photography.

Also remember the self timer series I did on Christmas day last year ( nothing like a challenge for the boys, to make them agree)

Ok so the remote. I have a wireless remote for my old camera and I loved it. The wired ones are a bit of a pain so I would definately go wireless.

Also if you are trying to set it up so you can just click the grandchildren without being behind the camera remember you have to go fairly wide angle and make everyone stay within some "border" like I did the couch!

They aren't that expensive, but the self timer on the camera works just as well but you have to runnnnnnn to be in the pic.

I have a remote for my camera and I have used it several times. Sometimes I use it just to make Jack interested in getting his picture taken. Sometimes I use it to get myself in the shot.

Here are two examples:

See it in his hand?

And notice that you can't SEE my hand?

I definitely love having my remote. I've actually never used the camera's timer because the remote is so much handier. It's even in a little case that's threaded onto the camera strap, so I always have it with me.

Mollie, I love my remote. It makes it so I can get into the picture every once in awhile. I used it to take this group shot of Doug's family.
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...at=&ppuser=289. what made it fun was that I clicked off several exposure which made while everyone was goofing around, and those are my favorite ones.

I love my remote (wireless) as well. It makes group shots so much easier (I hate running around) and also I am in more of the shots that way. I second what Teri said about clicking off severeal exposure while people are goofing around ... those are usually some of my favs as well (and blackmail matrial of my kids). I used the remote for the family shot at Christmas in this layout: http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...t=&ppuser=2249 . My kids love using it ... my husband had the timer in the dorky Easter dinner shot of our family on my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/ordinar...7604114063026/

Thanks for the feedback on my question.

But, no answers as to which one to buy? Do you need a Canon if your camera is a Canon? I am definitely getting myself one of some sort or another! I will use my meager birthday money for this little treat ... it is burning a hole in my pocket, and if I don't spend it quick it will go for food or gasoline.

Carol, Cassie, Teri and Sam ... thanks so much!

A remote would have come in so handy for taking those group shots of the GC. Since I also have a Canon, I'd love to know-my guess is that each camera has to have it's own model!

Also, another question about remotes . . . when you click the remote, does it focus on the object that you have the camera "pointed" towards?

When I use mine, I try to position the focus point on the area where a face will be then let the camera automatically focus. It also helps if you set the aperture so that the depth of field isn't so shallow that only one thing is in focus.

I am sure there are generics but I would buy the one specific to my camera. Most if them are not toooo expensive.

go and spend that money on you before it has to buy gas ...yuk
