Default Shazam method

Jessica Sprague has a neat method to try w/ your pictures posted on her blog today. I thought it would be a fun challenge to try here too. Post your photos in the photography gallery!

I saw that last night, Mo... and just printed it out at work! I tried it on a pic last night... works great! I think I'll be using her technique ALOT!!! (And, I'll post tonight when I get home from work... which I'd better get back to 'cuz the boss just got in! )

And, Maureen... your photo came out awesome, too, BTW! What a sweet little face! And, it shines when "shaZAMMED"!

Great photo Katrina. Everytime I take a photo of myself..you can really tell I took it...so of course it gets deleted. Mozer I saw a tutorial similar to this at taylormade not sure if it's ok to post the link here..anyway the focus of the tutorial is the selective coloring and then it takes it a step further by using the methods you are talking about to add some contrast back to the photo. I haven't used this particular technique yet with a color photo (had only been using the screen not the overlay part) but I know it does wonders for my b&w photos. Before this method all my b&w photos left alot to be desired not sure if I can blame it on the skin tone or my poor photography skills...lol. Thanks for posting this..I will have to try it with a color photo.

OK, Katrina. . . I have started to pm you several times about your little guy and have erased it every time for fear of seeming inappropriate. Well, no more. . . I'm saying it now in front of God and everybody: You have got THE most adorable little guy I've ever seen. I had always said that my Mark was the cutest little boy ever. Then Cassie's Jack came along and I had to fess up and tell her that I couldn't believe it, but Jack was actually cuter than Mark was. (Not by much, but he was cuter) Now, every time I see a pic of your little guy. . . . well, he beats them both. Absolutely adorable! Ok, it's said . . . (and hopefully it was not inappropriate). . . your photo is fabulous! :O) I'm going to try this.

I love your picture, Katrina! Maureen, thanks for sharing this technique with us. I tried it on a photo my son took of his son that was really shadowed and it did wonders for it! Think I'll tinker around in LR and see what the difference is to get to the same result.

Ok I tried this and I got a little lost here..6. Burn the edges of the background layer just a titch....don't know how but I know it can be done in PSE

7. Resize as needed,.....got that

But is this next instruction only achievable in PS and not PSE6

THEN run Smart Sharpen (sharpening should always be done last, and always on the photo when it’s at its final size). I recommend a strength of 85%, and then adjust the radius to taste.

I didn't use the burn tool on mine and a close equivalent to her Smart Sharpen for PSE is in the Unsharp Mask Filter
Amount 85%
Radius 1 pixel
Threshold 4 levels

And Kelly...not inappropriate at all...I'm flattered I love too that his personality is just as sweet as his little face...someone knew I would need an easy going child!

Angela... glad you got it figured out! Katrina's a gem, isn't she? I tried the "burn" on one of the pics (and I have PSE5)... kinda gives it a bit of a professional look. Try it for fun!

Great photos from everyone! Jessica has no idea the stir she's caused... and it's all good and fun and easy! Thanks, Mo, for starting the thread!
