Do you super photographers read any photography magazines? I was looking at Popular Photography in the library last night--I used to read this when I was a teenager interested in photography many years ago!--and liked what I saw. I especially liked the tips on how to photograph particular subjects or in particular settings--it looked really practical and not too technical. But are there other magazines I should take a look at? I like having something hard copy to read when I'm away from my computer.

I like pretty much ALL the magazines! I'm a magazine junkie. I hate that Popular Photography and Shutterbug have soooo many ads, but the articles are fun & interesting, although usually a bit on the basic side (if you're experienced.) But I still enjoy reading them and often pick up a copy or two.
I really like the following mags best: Photolife, Outdoor Photographer, American Photo, Aperture. I sometimes like Photo Techniques, but they still used to have a lot of film/darkroom stuff when I read it a few yrs back, and I had to skip all those articles. But their "general" articles are quite good. I LOVE Photolife because of the great sample pictures and interesting articles. http://www.photolife.com/ Aperture is pricey but very "artsty fartsy" ; sometimes I love their pics and sometimes I absolutely hate them...but they're always interesting to see! http://www.aperture.org/store/magazines.aspx Outdoor PHotographer is AWESOME with great pics & articles, not that many ads, and it's NOT just for outdoors...the techniques they discuss are often valid across the board. American Photo tries to be really "cool" but despite their pretensions they usually ARE pretty cool and have good articles. I usually go to Barnes & Noble & just shop around the mag rack! |

There is also Rangefinder
http://www.rangefindermag.com it's geared more towards the professional photographer, so has equipment reviews, marketing stuff, but other beneficial things as well. |
