Default Is the upgrade worth it - Rebel XT to 40D?

dh and I both are talking about upgrading our Rebel XT to the 40D - we already have a lot of very nice, quality lenses, so we would just be purchasing the body...

do you think it is worth the $1,000 price tag?

I think we could sell the XT with a few lenses for about $400 - but I wonder if the jump is really worth it - Mr Kelby said it is all about the quality of the lense.

thanks for your opinion

I found that when I upgraded from a Nikon D70 to a D300, it was well worth it. Not only did I gain picture quality, but I also gained speed in frames per second, better ISO performance and greater flexibility with settings. As a matter of fact, I haven't learned all the possiblities yet so it should be a nice camera to grow with.

I know this doesn't answer your Canon question, but the ladies who shoot Canon can help you there.

Basically, it was worth it to me.

I'm also a Nikon gal but I also was extremely happy with MY upgrade (D80 --> D200). The new camera gives me more options, better pic quality (which means I can crop during editing w/out losing too much resolution), and is just easier to use.

I know it's a lot of money but if you plan to keep shooting lots of photos, and if you won't break the bank w the upgrade, I think you'll really be happy with it! The 40D is supposed to be an amazing camera.

I know the lenses DO matter, and can make a big difference in photos, but the camera body is HUGE too and I love my upgrade!

Let us know what you decide!

Lynnie has gotten me interested in this new D40, so last night I sat down and "read" some reviews. Everyone was positive! The ISO and the color quality seem to be the main advantages over the Rebel. It is a little bigger and one person complained about the autofocus but other than that all reviews were good. Our camera, a D60, was great in 2002 but it looks like it might be time for us to upgrade as well. Listening to hear Lynnie's remarks when she gets hers.

Lynn This is so exciting!! Can't wait to hear because I, too, have a RebelXT. My older sister, a professional portrait artist has the 20D and I remember that when we bought them a few years ago there was not that much difference. But this new 40D?? Tell us about it.

One obvious question: Do the lens for the Rebel fit the 40D?, batteries and card, too?

Sharing your excitement.

Just found this review at Amazon. Useful.

Scroll to the bottom for customers reviews.

AND what about this? Do we believe this price or this company??
http://1wayphoto.com/products.asp?de...oduct_id=13317

crazed as usual by the scent of a new toy!!

Well, I've had my Canon 40d for a little over a week. I love it! I'm still learning about all the wonderful things it does and am not venturing much off of auto yet, but I really think that my photos are much better. And it is so fast! If you put it on continuous, you have 10 photos before you know it!!!
To answer one of your other questions, all the Rebel lenses, cards, batteries fit it.
So far, I would give it a big fat endorsement!

I made the switch from the Original Digi Rebel to the 30D and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The 30D and 40D just feel like better cameras, have faster motors, and capture better quality! You'll love it

Well Lynn, the photos you've posted to the Flickr site with the new camera are really beautiful. Let me know as you go what you think. Like I said on one of the chat's, I not supposed to be even talking about this since I just got a new Macbookpro.... but hey, a girl's gotta KNOW!!

STAY AWAY FROM 1WAYPHOTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If its too good to be true IT IS!!!!!! Google it and look at the horrid reviews! There are a number of bad camera dealers on the web (Ive made this mistake). And our friend Scrapbird is going through it now see this thread

As for the upgrade, I say go for it!! (for no reason other than I like to enable! )

I bought my camera and last two lenses from Amazon. I feel safe ordering from them, their price is about the lowest from a reputable site and there was no shipping charge.

OK I have been thinking of upgrading my camera lately and you girls have made me want to more. What's worse is my husband said last night "How much" and I said over $$$ a certain amount and he said "so what". So I started searching (am a Nikon person) and when I read all the reviews about the 300 started salivating. I am not one to wait when I shope. When I start looking I am serious...so guess what? I did it!!! should be here in less than a week...wonder if my husband really meant..so what? You only live once!

Just thought I would add since I am a Canon girl... I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my 30D. After researching I am sticking with it until I can afford to upgrade to the 5D full version (one day!)

I tried both in the store and was blown away by my 30D. I have had it for over a year now and I don't have a single complaint!

My vote is GO FOR IT... you won't regret it
