Default Cassie, Heidi......18-200 VR.......

Is this a lens you use a lot? Tell me about it - it's not exactly an impulse buy and I'm curious Do you use it a lot? Like it? I've read a bit about it here and there and would love to know what you think!

Thanks, Amy

Love it when I use it but I have a fixed 50 or 85 on my camera most of the time - because I spend most of my time taking portraits for clients these days. But YES, I love it when I want a zoom.

I love mine- it really catches the kids in motion... the only problem- when you're pregnant- it's a heavy sucker!

Amy, you're right that it's not an impulse buy . . . I have it and my fixed 50, and the 50 stays on the camera 90% of the time. My son just started soccer, so I'll have to let you know in a few weeks. I have been perfectly happy with the photos I have taken with it, but I haven't really put it to the test.

P.S. Audrey . . . your signature is cracking me up.

the 18-200 VR is a FABULOUS walk-around all-purpose lens. It's not near as sharp or fast as my primes, but great when you need the versatility of a zoom.

I agree 100%.....I love the versatility of this lens when you are out and about...well worth the investment in my opinion!

Kathie
I see you also have the 55-200mm. I just have the 18-55mm that came with my D40X and I'm going to buy the 50mm 1.8. From other threads here on the forum I wanted the 18-200mm but it's pretty expensive - so what is the 55-200mm like? I wondered if it might be a good compromise? I just want to cover myself for pictures of the kids and travel photos.
Thanks
