Question Gary Fong Puffer . . . thoughts?

I just got this e-mail, as many of you Lightsphere owners may have, about Gary Fong's latest creation. What do you think?

Pop-Up Flash Diffuser

Sometimes the speedlight & lightsphere are just too much to carry around.

I think it looks very interesting. If it works the way they say, it sure would be a lot more portable than the whole speedlight/lightsphere combo. For $19.95 I think I may give it a try!

That's what I was thinking, too. Of course, I've thought . . . "for only $20 I might as well . . . " lots and lots and LOTS of times. It starts to add up and then it all sits in a bag in the closet.

I'm glad you asked about this, Cassie, because I got the email this morning and was wondering if it would be worth the small investment. I guess one of us is just going to have to take the plunge and try it and share whether we love it or not.

I probably won't get it - My speedlight just gives such better shots than my pop-up that I can't imagine using the pop-up.

Hey, Kathie! Maybe this in one we really will use! And even if it isn't, it will be one of our least expensive unused purchases!

I think it could come in handy for instance in a restaurant with high or dark-colored ceilings where bouncing or normal fong-ing doesn't work as well. Plus sometimes I just want to bring my small camera bag. OK - I have convinced myself! Love your new avatar Dagmar.
So what looks weirder - the tupperware bowl or the maxi pad?

I think you'll be glad you ordered it Mindy. I got mine about two weeks ago and I've used it a lot. I took pictures of my grandson at Chuck E Cheese (his first visit!) and I felt less conspicuous without that big flash and bowl on my camera. The Puffer is pretty small but works well.

just got mine today! What fast shipping, i ordered on the 5th and got it on the 6th! I guess it also help when 'm only 30 mins away. I really like that it don't have that hard shadow as when you shoot with just the flash and everything don't look so shiny! For 20 bucks is worth it.

HELP?!!

Has anyone used this on a 40D? When I put it on the flash shoe, someone it seems to turn the flash off. Puffer off, flash flashes, Puffer on...nothing.

I'm sure I've done something silly...but can't figure out what...

Any suggestions?

I'm about to buy this little gadget -- my finger is hovering over mouse, ready to click "purchase" -- anyone want to talk me out of it? Or is it a great deal? BTW, I have a Nikon D40.

I just bought one... still $19.99! I watched the little demo video and it seems like a handly little tool, especially since I don't plan on investing in an external flash for awhile!

On the Puffer page, it lists all the cameras it works on... you're good to go using it w/the Nikon D40, Billie!

Can't wait to get mine... those shadows annoy me and I'm not quite knowledgeable enough yet to put all my faith in me picking the right settings w/o a flash! LOL
