Default got a new camera :-)

hey there!
i have been following the photography forum for a while and decided to buy me my first ever "real" camera. it is a canon 600d with the kit 18-55.
just loading the battery now ;-)
any suggestions what i should/can do first in learning the camera? reading the manual from front to back, taking photos, being happy... whatever...

thank you for being "my" scrapping community :-)

Congratulations! I would suggest reading the first chapter of the manual so you know where all the buttons are and then play with it some.. that's the great thing about digital you can practice all you want.. eventually make you're way through the manual but don't try to do it all at one time you'll get overwhelmed.. Enjoy!

You are going to love your big girl camera! I'm a Canon girl too and I can't tell you how I LOVE using it. Donna gave great advice when she said to read the manual . . . I keep mine in my camera bag and refer to it all the time.

Congrats! It can be a bit overwhelming at first but take it slow and just practice. I would also suggest Katrina Kennedy's photography classes! She has taught me sooo much!

thank you so much for your great advices! to keep the manual in the bag is a good suggestion as it will fade away when it's crammed in the closet.
i thought about taking photo classes and i am not sure now if i will. first i want to get to know the camera in the detail and take lots of shots so i can make lots of photos, some good, some interesting ;-)

i was so surprised to see, that the pictures even get lighter than in reality when iso 6400 is used. the shots are somewhat noisy but still no comparison to my other cameras.

thank you for your thoughts!

CONGRATS!! How exciting!! I bought my first dSLR a year ago July! LOVE IT!! You should ask Santa to get you the 50mm 1.8 It's about $100 and so worth it! So affordable for a lens, and it's GREAT in low light! I took a few online classes (not sure if I can post where in here) that I thought was very worth it! I basically never shoot in auto! I also agree that it takes a lot of practice!! I'm still learning!
