Default Canon G12

Hi All

I was just wanting some feedback if any of you know of this Powershot camera a canon G12. I am not into the full on SLR and I want to upgrade to a much better point and shoot. I very good friend has a mate who is a journalist and he uses one of these cameras for the newspaper and was highly recommended.

I am going to Singapore in a few weeks and have a contact there and will try to see what I can get it for here in Oz it retails from $399 - $699. Not sure with exchange how we will go.

Some photographic feed back would be great..

Thanks all

I have never used the camera but I have heard great things about it. I do believe several members here have it.

I always like to read the reviews on Amazon.

Hi Lynn,
I purchased the G12 a couple of months ago and overall for what you are getting it's fantastic. Light, portable, great shots and video to boot. It's easy to use as a point and shoot and Canon gives you the option of getting more creative by changing aperture, iso etc if you so choose. Picture quality is great (most of the pics in my vacation book for my daughter came from the G12) the macro is unreal.
Does it replace my DSLR? No I still love my DSLR but there are time when I get tired of hauling my camera and lens out and sometimes I like being in the photo! My DH takes a great photo...if it's automatic.
Overall it is a great camera. I think I looked at a Lumix as well but the zoom in the G12 was far better.
Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'l try to answer them!

I have a G11 and I am crazy about it!!!! The photos are awesome. The only thing that I wish is that the burst mode was faster. Hopefully the G12 has improved that. I like the burst mode to capture the grandkids because they DO NOT stay still for a second.

I will have the G11 for a long time, it does all that I need it to do. DH uses the DSL, but I an happy with my G11.

Sallie

The G12 is 2 models newer than my G10. I didn't use it for a while, as I started carrying my 5D with me everyday, and then one day I pulled it out, and was amazed at the shots I got, and wondered why I wasn't using it.

I Like Canon's high end of P&S camera - they are not cheap, but I refused to get a camera that didnt have a viewfinder, and the G10 had a pretty good optical zoom (for a P&S). In looking at the difference between my G10 & the G12, it looks like came down from 14.7 mp to 10 mp, which surprises me, but they have added quite a bit like a higher ISO, a variable angle LCD (I would like that), plus lots of new technology I don't even know about. It has a 28mm lens (love that), image stablization, shoots in RAW - And does video. If you want a small P&S, this one is not for you, but I have to say I love mine, and am happy I spent the money on it, and keep it handy always.

You will really love this camera, Lynn. I have the G10 and have not been disappointed with it at all. It is a great travel camera and an amazing "in the purse" camera for your unexpected photo ops!

I carry the 11 everywhere I go. If it breaks, bring on the 12. Only line I will ever buy again!
