Default school photo

I volunteered to take a school photo today, what was I thinking???? They are all wearing a green T-shirt today and my DD was bugging me to call them and offer my services. Go figure!
Any special thing I should think about? I was thinking about using my wide angle lens, would that be a good idea? It's going to be outside on the front steps, thank goodness it's going to be nice today.
So, which lens? You can see in my signature what I have
Thanks guys!

wow you're brave! just watch where the sun is! What time of day are you shooting? Don't be afraid to organize them with taller kids in the center, sorter kids on the ends and then down in front so you have nice balance. I think that's what's hardest about a big group! Good luck! Can't wait to hear how it turns out!

I'm supposed to be shooting just before dismissal at about 2.15. Looks like it's going to be nicer, but slightly overcast (yay!) The sun should be sort of behind me, I hope. I think I might take my 17-35 and the 24-70 lens and see which one will work better.... thanks for the good luck, I'll need it LOL

You are so nice to do this, Anke! It's putting your camera equipment and photography talent to good use and I know your shots will be great. Good luck getting the kids organized on the steps...I'm sure the teacher will help with that.

There is no way I could have watched for anything. There were over 400 students there and they simply crammed them all together wherever they would fit. I was able to get a 10 foot ladder to stand on which made it easier. I was barely able to squeeze everybody in the frame and you can barely make out the faces LOL. An ocean of green T-shirts! I actually had to photoshop a couple of heads in because they were too far on the edge. My DD was stunned when she watched me do it, it was hilarious! They mentioned my name in the school email I just received, that was kind of cool. What an experience though....

Oh my words, 400+ kids in one photo, what a large group, when I first started reading this thread I figured 30 couple, which is hard enough. Did you know it was going to be the whole school when you offered your services?
