Lightroom issue......

I just got a new laptop and a 1.5 tb EHD. I have carefully transfered all my photos and digi supplies, and relaoded software etc. I have moved some old photos to my EHD off my laptop to save space, and I was able to go into my lightroom catalouge and redirect it to look for these on my EHD. I think this is all working ok, but now, whenever I attach my EHD lightroom automatically opens and wants to import all the photos it can find. Is there a setting somewhere I need to change?
My new laptop has windows 7, which is new to me, and I dont know if it it causing this some how. It didn't happen on my old laptop, with the same sort of set up (windows xp, smaller EHD, but catalouge pointed to photos on it).
Any idea's anyone?

Sam,
I would start by going to File/Auto Import and making sure you have Auto Import Settings disabled.

Katrina, I didnt have that auto import enabled. My DH has been playing with it tonight, and he did change a setting that I think may have fixed the problem. I dont remember what he said he did, but i'll ask him and post incase anyone has the same problem. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ok.... So he went to Edit/Preferences/Import and deselected a check box that said "show import dialog when memory card is detected".
Seems to have fixed the problem.
