Default Wide angle lens

What do I look for in a wide angle lens? I'm still very new to photography, but I hear this is something I should have. Any suggestions or recommendations? I have the Canon 50D.

I would consider aperture and of course cost. I've got a tutorial in the store that might help you out

I have the Canon 50D and a few months ago I purchased a wide angle lens. I wish I had purchased it sooner, I've spent way too much time trying to stich photos in Photoshop. I got the Canon EFS 10-22mm f3.5-4.5. After reading lots of reviews that one was the most highly rated - it was compared favorably to the very expensive "L" series lenses. It is specifically designed for the non-full frame camera to give you as wide of angle as possible. While I would have liked a faster lens I just didn't see making that large of an investment for an occasional use lens. The lens did a wonderful job and is surprising wide (but no distortion like you get with fish eye lens). I wasn't expecting that wide of an angle at first and with the low lighting I ended up with a few unexpected things in the pictures. Hope that helps.
