Renaming files

I hope someone can advise me on renaming several thousand .jpg files--

I had all our old family photo negatives scanned at ScanCafe. Now I want to rename them-- They were assigned an arbitrary serial number when they were scanned, but I always use the [year-roll#-frame#] format so I can always figure out what year and approximately when a photo was taken.

"Process Multiple Files" in PSE, would be an easy way to do this, since I organized the scanning so each roll was returned to me in a separate file folder (about 150 separate folders). If I rename all these files using this command, will I lose quality? If so, is there any other automated way to do this?

Yes, I have LR2. Ok, I have started the process of importing and renaming year-by-year.

I should have realized that was the best way to do it, but I wasn't thinking straight.
