Default Obsessing about the External Flash

Hello.

I have been obsessing about external flashes. I am trying to decide....I can rent one for $15 a weekend from my favorite camera store so I could just save money or I could buy my own? The more I understand how to use the external flash the more I realize I would really like it.

I have looked into it today and the SB 600 by Nikon for my D90 seems great. I only want to be a Portrait/family Photographer. I just keep getting a feeling I will be disappointed I did not purchase one with more power like the SB 900.

From what I can understand after some research today. The SB 900 would be great to add later if and when I have a studio and the two could compliment each other. It is time like these the internet can be overwhelming with all the information.

Any suggestions? Or thoughts?

Thanks Teresa

I have to say I love my external flash. It makes a huge difference for indoor photos where there is no natural light. It made a huge difference.

I shoot canon so I have no info on the particular flashes... but on the business side of things I do use mine as a back light in my studio when I need it. I have used it as fill flash for weddings too.

I think next to my camera and L series lens it is my next useful too =)

I say go for it!!!!!

I have the SB900 and love it. Katie has the SB600. They are phasing out the SB600 this year.

I have both the SB600 and SB900... and you are correct that you could use the SB600 later as a slave flash for backlighting or whatever you like with the SB900 as the master so it wouldn't be a waste of money

Default thanks

Does one have to worry to much when they phase out the flash? I would buy an SB 800 if they were easier to get a hold of.

Just wondering?

Thanks tk
