Question Do you have a P&S: Which one & what do you like about it?

I am thinking I will ask DH to get me a P&S for Mother's Day but cannot decide which one I want. I have a Nikon DSLR but do not always want to have to carry it with m, so I thought this would be a good present.

Do you have a P&S to carry in your purse?
If so which one is it and what do you like about it?

Thanks!

I have a Nikon Coolpix S570 (gasp)*. We bought it at Costco for around $150 and I do love it. Nothing fancy. It has several scene settings but no manual control (which is fine by me, I have another camera for that )

I've been having lots of fun with it. I like that it is super handy, not a lot of fuss and muss, and I can get super close to my subjects for goofy looks! It fits in my pocket since I don't often leave the house with a purse.

The photos in the top right and top left corners of this layout were taken with it.

*I specifically purchased a Nikon wanting to see what it was like on the other side! Canon makes some great p&S too!

I have a Canon G9 that I bought used right before Christmas (I think they are up to about a G13 now.) It is the perfect purse size. It has a terrific little zoom and it takes fabulous photos. I bought it because I saw a friend's vacation pictures (she's not an experienced photographer) and I couldn't believe the quality. I have not been disappointed!

I have a Panasonic DMC-ZR1 that I am very happy with. It was ranked highly by consumers reports, and is a good blend of small but still provides high megapixels and 8x optical zoom.

I have a Canon G-10 and absolutely love it . . . it goes everywhere that I go! The battery life is good and the photo quality is great.

Lumix, I love everything about it. Better than my old Nikon P&S (2 of them). Great lens on it, too. It is just nice.

I have a Sony Cyber-shot and I would recommend going to a store and looking at them and holding them. My camera fits in the palm of my hand and takes great pics too!

I have a Sony Cyber-shot which has a viewfinder, plus screen, so I can actually use the viewfinder to see what I'm shooting in the sun. I can shoot indoors without flash, macro, etc. My daughter has a Panasonic Lumix (?) that takes the most amazing shots...portraits, action, landscapes. I would get one of those next time.

Both my parents have Panasonic Lumix cameras--my mom's is about 3 years old and my dad's about a year. I think they take good photos and the battery life is pretty long lasting. I know both have Lithium Ion, which I've read lasts longer, but has the downfall that you can't just run into any store and pick up AA batteries to use in them when traveling if you need new batteries.

I had a Canon P&S (an A590, I think) and after a little over a year, it died a few months ago. It seems there's something faulty with the battery compartment/connectors because it always tells me to change the batteries even with fresh or fully charged ones in it. I think we're just going to buy another camera, probably a Lumix. Also, it used two AA batteries. I use my flash a ton in the house (we just don't have great natural light), and it ate through the batteries compared to my mom's Lumix and had a fairly bad shutter lag. In fact, so much so that my now 3 year old used to pose for a picture, and after the flash went off, he would say, "Ok, now, just wait, just wait." :-) He knew the routine of having to wait in between photos! (Note: I have a different Canon P&S that isn't small enough to use in my purse that uses 4 AA and it's much better with battery life and shutter lag, and I think it's because of the additional battery boost.)

Hope that helps!

Like Katrina, I switched brands when it came to my P&S. I have a Canon G11, which is really awesome.
