Default Still trying to decide...D5000 or D90

So, a side by side comparison doesn't give me many differences between the Nikon D5000 and the D90. The biggest difference is the lenses. The D90 doesn't need the AF-S lenses (which are more expensive), but everything I've read is that Nikon is slowly taking the motors out of the cameras anyways and AF-S lenses will be the norm and if I want to upgrade my body down the road, it is wise to have the AF-S incase the newer bodies need them.

So that makes it not a very good reason to buy the D90...however, here are the good reasons: its slave flash control abilities, extra direct access hard buttons, better viewfinder and bigger LCD. You get a better kit lens with the D90 as well, but it is about $500 difference. I really want the D90, but I'm afraid I could better spend the $500 savings on lenses! What do you guys think? I don't know if any of you use a slave flash and at what point in your career/hobby it became necessary.

TIA for the input.

I have to admit that I don't know anything about the D5000. However, I upgraded from the D50 to the D90 when it was released and I don't regret it for a minute....it's a fabulous camera. And...no matter what camera you buy, there is always a lens or two on your wishlist...lol!! Have fun with your new camera...whichever one you decide on

With so many choices it's hard to decide now a days. I would suggest you stay with the camera with the built in focus motor also, the D90. While Nikon and some of the other camera companies are removing the motor from the lower end cameras there is no way they will do it at the higher end because of the nr of pros using them and the lenses they already have. I also think it gives you a wider range of choices in lenses. Good luck which ever you choose you're going to love it

I love my D90! I'd go with that if I had the money.

Well, they always say, get the best you can afford, so I'm going to have to agree and save a little longer and get that D90. I know if I get the D5000 I'll always want the D90...so, there you go!

Thanks for helping me to the other side!

I have the D90 and love it (I also have the D40). You can just buy the body only, and then get a good deal on a lens....

I agree with Nikon never getting rid of internal motors. The ever-shrinking lower end cameras are catering to us Mammaratzi's!
