canon xs or xsi?

ok...so i got the go ahead from the dh to get a new camera
i can get the XS with lens kit for 499 or the xsi for 599.
this will be my first DSLR.
what do you think? i am leaning more towards the xs for 499 because i have my lenses from my film rebel that i can use and i am NOT trying to be a professional photographer i just want a good solid camera.

If I was making this decision I would go with the XSi for one simple reason. THe Xsi has spot metering, the XS does not. There are a few other reasons as well. For a good solid camera, I wouldn't give that up!
