Hey guys! I am looking into buying a couple more lenses. I just dont know what to get.. if you had to choose your top 3 lenses what would it be? I'm curious to see what you all have to say.. and in hopes I get an idea of what to buy! I have two weimaraner dogs that I love to photograph, but I'm just not thrilled with my results.... I need to try something new..
thanks guys! |

I use two lenses, both are mostly for portrait photography. I love my Sigma 50 mm f/1.4. It lets me shoot in low-light conditions, it produces amazing bokeh, and is a great portrait lens when you don't have very much space - typically indoors. It was glued to my camera for two years.
I also have a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS lens, which is rather pricey, but I love it! Great for portraits outdoors and if you have a lot of room indoors. I really want a 24-70 (or about that area) f/2.8 lens, but that hasn't been on the budget yet. So I guess what I'm longing for is exactly what Randy has. Although, a guy in the photo store told me to get a 30 mm f/1.4 instead of a zoom lens, and do the zooming with my legs in that area too. He was very pro prime lenses. I suppose I am too; I was very happy with my 50mm for a loong time. It's still on most of the time, but I usually change for outdoor photos. You can do a lot with prime lenses, and they will trigger your creativity. The 1.8 that you have is great for taking photos of dogs or children that move fast. The 55-250 might be too slow in low light conditions. The IS won't help you with fast-moving subjects. But you are covered if you're thinking focal length. I suppose what you want is faster lenses (in other words low f-stop). But be sure you're not just suffering from lens lust A good rule is to buy a new lens only when you can't get the shots you want with the lenses you have. But I suppose I'm spoiling the fun with that comment. I only own two lenses. They are both pricey, but I'd rather have two good ones than several which can't get me the shots I want.Another lens I'd like to try is the lensbaby. Really cool photos! (Ok, I'm contradicting myself here )
