Default A bit of advice for photographers! That's you :)

As many of you might have noticed over the past 2 years that I have been hanging around here, I have a MULTITUDE of old family photos from way back.
Some from generations removed, many from my own family of my mom, dad and two sisters.
It has come to my attention recently, and surprisingly, that I don't have even one photo of the five of us all together! (my parents and sisters) Someone is always missing via standing behind the camera!
Now, you can imagine how frustrating this is for me...I spend lots of time photographing others and making sure I get the whole family in.
So, all I wanted to say is.....HAND YOUR CAMERA OVER TO SOMEONE AND HAVE THEM GET YOUR WHOLE GROUP in at least a few pics! Even a marginal photo is better than nada!
Don't forget Whatever your family consists of, get them in a picture!

Great advice Kerry! My kids know that every function we go to or holiday we celebrate there is going to be at least one family photo of the five of us. Sometimes it isn't the best and sometimes one of the kids is throwing a fit or crying... but I figure that just makes a better story =)

I noticed the same thing today when a picture of all 5 of us popped up on my electronic frame. It was Christmas morning and our hair looks horrid. I thought to myself that we really needed a much better family picture than that!

Same thing here--I have only one photo of my parents and all of the kids. Everyone needs to follow Kerry's advice and get those photos now!

You know Kerry I never thought about that, but now realize I only have about 2 family photos from my childhood. I'm also sad to report that I only have a handful of family photos of my immediate family. Thanks for the reminder to make this a priority!

I have 1 photo of my parents with all of the kids (i must have been 4) and that's the only one. I use my tripod and the self-timer every once in a while for my family, but not nearly as often as I should. Always a good reminder.

That is such a good reminder - this is something we all forget. Our children (and children's children) will thank us for it one day...

I'll add another tip. You should tell those people who hate having their photos taken to suck it up, it won't kill them. (you should say it nicer, lol). I have very few pictures of my parents in general, so you can imagine how few I have with me and them. They hate having their pictures taken. So does my hubby, but I've worked out a deal with him that I get 5 pictures of him or of us per trip and also one just out of the blue photo a month. He holds very tight to those numbers too, but at least I get a minimum of 12 pictures a year. And he doesn't have to worry about a camera always being in his face. Anyway, just thought I'd add that, I know I am not the only person with camera shy family!

This is great advice - unfortunately the few times I tried it, nobody had a top to their head. I don't know what people look at in the viewfinder when composing photos.

So I have become very adept at using software to add (or delete) someone from a photo. I have been lucky to at least have photos that can be merged - especially of those who are no longer with us.

We have a tradition of a "tripod" family photo every Xmas season and also try to get one around the 4th of July when outside photo conditions are better. I try to get at least one shot for each person in the group and usually we end up with one with all eyes open. When I first look at them, I'm never happy with how they turned out but after a year, I look back and they aren't so bad after all...Time seems to even out the rough spots. If one of the little ones doesn't want to cooperate, he usually gets to push the button on the wireless remote and loves having the power!!!

Such great advice. Thanks for the reminder. I need to learn how to use the self-timer on my camera.

thanks for the reminders. I tend not to be in any pictures to begin with and whole family photos are rare if they exist at all. I need to take that into consideration

This is SO true! When my son got married, we wanted a picture of him and me together, and to my dismay, I discovered I had exactly 3 - in 30 years! Tons of pictures of him, none of the two of us...... Stop hiding behind the camera and get in the picture!

Are you saying you add deceased people to your photos??
