Default Help photographing falling rain

I'm trying to document our never-ending rain for my 365 album, but try as I might, I can't get anything but blur.
Any suggestions? It probably doesn't help that I'm a complete idiot with anything more complex than Program mode.

well if youre not going to try different modes then try capturing the amount of rain - like it falling in a puddle? or with a home made rain gauge, the drops against the window {focus on the drops not the view} or the soaking items outside. I particularly like rain drops on plants - after the rain tho not during
failing that I think you might need the shutter speed section in the e book here - Get me off auto'

Diane, I took this photo today of melting snow. I layed down on the garage floor (only dry spot), focused on the crack, and fired away. I was using my 50-200mm lens, ISO on 200, A mode, f/5.6, 1/400. I took 150 pictures just to get this ONE!

You might want to read the Shutter Priority section of Get Me Off of Auto

Thanks, Mel and Katrina. I'm off to read the shutter speed and shutter priority sections of Get Me Off Auto! ...which I have, but haven't opened yet.
