Default Yayyyyy finally a proud owner of lightroom...

so what do I do now....lol. I haven't opened the box yet. I'm usually ok with installing software but could probably use some pointers on what book I should get to learn it? Or if I should look for a face to face class?

I have Scott Kelby's book, which is highly recommended here at DD, but haven't really jumped in yet. What I've taught myself is very little...how to use presets, etc. I searched for free pre-sets all over the web, too.

There is a great thread in the flickr group linking to presets! Search Lightroom over there and you'll find some good stuff! Ask us anything, we can help

Angela - I'm in my normal software dither. Would you mind sharing why you got lightroom?

You need Scott Kelby's book. LR is great, but takes time to learn your way around it.

Mary Ann I wanna be like Katrina...lol...nahhh o wait yes I do. Actually I've been hearing about Lightroom so much since I joined this site and started scrapping and so many of the people here swear by it and those presets I keep seeing. I probably should have downloaded a trial version and tested it, but to be honest with you I hardly ever download a trial version of anything, I figure why clutter up my computer (nothing is ever really deleted) if I'm probably going to get the real version anyway. Also since I am a student, I could get it $99. I know I didn't help you very much but that's my final answer...lol. Take a look at this thread http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...amera-raw.html

Thanks for the helpful thread link, Angela, didn't see it first time around. Maybe I'll download the trial so I can get a feel for the differences between LR and Raw editor. Synching sounds useful.

(PS - Everyone wants to be like Katrina!!)

LR 2 or above has many wonderful features that a raw editor just doesn't have. Check out all the sources listed above and you will be most amazed by what you can do with this cool product.

lightroomkillertips.com with Matt K and also the tv.adobe/lr site... really helped with my transition. I decided to wait to import my photos until I learned more about the program and am SO glad I did. A lot to learn but it's a great program once you get the hang of it.

Lightroom . . . that is near and dear to my heart!!! I wish that I had bookmarked an article on a blog this morning. A professional photographer was saying that she hated LR for the first 3 days and when it clicked, she switched from post processing in PS to LR. Once it clicks, it is AWESOME. I learned from the Kelby book and another one that I can't remember now what it is called. Something from the Visual Learning Library or something like that. Between the two, they answer all of my questions. I also subscribe to LR podcasts on iTunes and subscribe to LR RSS blog feeds.

I work for a school district and have access to Academic Superstore and got version 1 then version 2. Version 3 beta is now out but I have not downloaded it yet but I have read about all of the updates.

It is so much easier to work on the photos because of presets and everything is all on one screen and you are not using different tabs all of the time - you work on one screen only, it is all right there. I am just crazy about the adjustment brush, it is amazing and so much fun.

I LOVE LIGHTROOM!

Sallie
