Default lens question

Hello everyone,

Katrina, are you there? I have a question. I hope it makes sense. Let's say that you have 2 lenses - the 50 mm 1.4 and the 50 mm 1.8. Would you get the same results at, let's say, 2.2 with both lenses, or would the 1.4 take a better picture? Would the 1.4 be faster at 2.2 than the 1.8? I'm just wondering. Trent broke my 50mm 1.8 lens, and for Christmas, my husband is going to get me a new lens. I told him that the 1.8 is just fine, but then I thought that, well, since he's offering, I may as well get the 1.4. The only problem is...I don't know for sure what the difference is.

Thank you so much for your help. I don't know what I'd do without you ladies. Seriously. You're the best.

Renee

I wish I could say, yes you are going to get the same photo at both apertures, but it isn't the case. The glass elements that make up the 1.4 are better quality than those used in the 1.8. He will notice the difference in price as well

The difference might be only slightly noticeable but there will be a difference. That being said, I happily used the 1.8 for several years.

The motor in Canon's 1.4 is faster so your ability to focus works much more smoothly and, of course, faster. I was given the 1.4 by my hubby who didn't think I had the 1.8 already. I told him to return it. He said, well, just try it and see. I tried it and promptly offered my 1.8 to a friend!

Enjoy your new lens, whichever it might be!

Hi,

This is no doubt for me a very good info about the lenses as, I have heard about this too and most of the good photographers use this lens only as, it is sharp, small, light, inexpensive and faster ability to focus.

Also, the first quality of this lens is the good image quality.

Thanks!
