I am playing with my new Nikon D5000 (so excited!) I am completely new at this, so I'm reading anything I can find to learn more. Right now I'm focusing on shutter speed. My camera is supposed to have a shutter speed as high as 1/4000, but the fastest I can set it to is 1/200. Did I mess with another setting that is not allowing me to increase the shutter speed?
TIA! |

I think more info is needed? Which mode are you shooting in? Which type of lens is on?
I only ask because when I have my zoom lens I can have shutter speeds up to 1/4000 but I can't with my 18-55 lens. I'm sure one of the photog experts will come along and give you a helpful answer. Good luck and have fun with the new camera

Yes.....need to know what mode you have the camera in?
Shutter priority? manual? aperture priority? For learning purposes now, knowing you want to learn more about shutter speed, put it in shutter priority. Tv mode. Peachpit: Nikon D5000: The Professional Modes > S: Shutter Priority Mode |

Are you using a flash? On many cameras the maximum flash sync speed is 200.
