Default Old 35mm SLR - Any reason to use?

I have used digital point and shoots for about 10 years now - but have a closet full of old 35mm SLR stuff - camera bodies, lenses, filters, etc.

I am not a professional or even an advanced photographer and don't ever print big enlargements, so the digital point and shoot is great for me.

Just wondering if anyone still uses film cameras for anything at all? Is there any situation where a film camera would be better than a digital?

Just curious - Barbara

Hey Barbara, if your lens are Canon, I'm interested!! LOL My step-son, who has the same camera I have ( a new Canon digital SLR) showed me that you can use old lens on them! He is a video creator of A&E and Bravo and is amazing with an old Nikon lens adapted to our camera.

You could sell them on Ebay if you really don't want them.

Actually, I didn't mean to sound like I wanted to get rid of them - just curious if there was any good reason why I should still consider using film sometimes instead of digital.

Curious though about your comment on using old lenses on a digital SLR. What do you have to do to adapt?

For Canon, the only one I know, they just fit or you buy an adaptor. There are limits on auto focus and such but you can use them.

There is a movement afoot to use more film! I think because its use is waning (plummeting), people see it as an artistic expression and a unique art form!
I have a bunch of film cameras that I am dying to use again. But who has time? LOL.

I'd keep it, Barbara, and maybe the mood will strike someday to dust it off.

I traded in our film Minolta SLR and several lenses when I purchased my DSLR.

I haven't regretted it because I'm pretty sure I'm not going to dabble in film anymore. If I were younger maybe I would have kept it, just in case.

I am with Kerry... I would keep it! While I love my digital, I also feel that there are certain qualities with film that you can't get in digital.

I'm scouring my house for our OLD Pentax with nothing auto on it at all just to prove to myself I can take photos with anything Much like Kerry mentioned I want to try it for the artistic qualities and the opportunity to truly slow down and take one photo of something instead of 10!

My dad has his old Canon and I cant find mine-somehow we ended up with exactly the same 35mm all manual camera. It has been so long since I was off auto, I have forgotten how! But his camera will never go away-it is a treasure! and maybe an antique?
