I have to say it is the photographer that makes great photos Patricia (teragram) takes AMAZING photos with her point and shoot!

But seriously it really is a combination of both. Since your frustration is with getting closer shots I would say you need a new lens. A new camera would still leave you wanting to get closer!

What types of photos do you take most often that you want to get closer? Lots of options dependent upon your price and need.

You have a good camera that is more than most people would need - so I'd absolutely say - a new lens.

One point is, as Katrina mentioned above - it is not the camera that takes photos.
Second point - a good quality lens means SO much more than the camera. Splurge on a nice lens and then you will see new dimensions in your camera as well.

Definitely a new lens!
As long as you know what you're doing when composing and taking shots, the camera body is not the most important thing!
You and the lens are!

I have the Rebel XT and I noticed that there is a definite difference in the lens that came with and the lens I purchased later.

The camera is just a "Storing box" for your pictures... so if you want good close up Macro shot, you definitely need good Macro lens and they are expensive, but that will open such a beautiful all other WORLD for you... so I say don't skimp on it... good luck... can't wait to see you pictures on Flickr Patricia...

So I wanted to practice what I preach...

I got out my old Original Digital Rebel (no x's or i's or anything just DRebel) and put my 70-200mm f/2.8 L lens on it.

And now I can safely say it is the lens

Photos on my blog.

I just bought a new lens this summer - the 70-200 f/2.8 - and it is so amazing all the stuff I learned about my camera because of the new lens - I used to never change the lens on my camera, but now I do it all the time because I have learned that different situations call for a different lens - a different camera just wouldn't change that much. Have fun with your purchase!
