Default Another RAW/LightRoom Rescue

Just had a sobering learning experience this morning. A wedding of very close friends - we were the only not family there - and I knew she would want me to take photos. All prepared - battery charged, card actually IN the camera and empty, etc. ISO right...everything good. Except ...... the white balance was set for inside since I had been taking photos of a cooking party in my kitchen last night. All the beautiful outside in the sweet dew of morning photos were BLUE! And one click in Lightroom turned them golden glowing again.

Shoot raw. end of story.

You made such a great case with your story Patricia! I couldn't agree more. This wouldn't have ever been possible with JPEGs. I bet the bride will be thrilled.

OK-question about shooting RAW...(can you tell I haven't stepped out on that ledge yet?) -can you preview your pics the same in review as if it were jpeg...and what do you see when you upload them?

I am not able to see them in the windows preview. I always use LR or CS4 though, so it's not a problem.
I can't tell you how many times I have done the same thing and it literally takes one click to make the sun shine again

Patricia ... do you have a law degree too? Maybe a law practice on the side???

I say this because you are always prepared & because you know what to do when something goes awry! And, you can get to the heart of the problem and solve it! (As in working out things in LR so quickly)

I'm on a Mac and can see the previews in finder for RAW. I too upload to LR and you can definitely see them there

Is there a tut here on DD or does someone have the workflow for Camera Raw that they would share. I open a photo in Raw and then don't "exactly" know what to do?!

Are you using LR or PS Camera RAW?

In LR you open the file and basically work down the right hand side of controls in the Develop module. The white balance eye dropper lets you select a white spot in your photo to set the white balance, but I'm much happier with my results using the slider.

Lynda, maybe some afternoon I can come over & help you out - I use Bridge & Camera Raw - since I made the switch to Raw, I wouldn't go back - love it - thanks Katrina for your encouragement!

Patricia, so glad things worked out for you AND for the bride!
