One last try.
Click on your trash can. Hold the Shift + Option + Command keys and hit Delete. See if that does it for you. If that doesn't work, it sounds like you've tried everything that the Mac site suggests. If you have the Apple Care protection plan, try calling the Apple support number. Like Myra stated in a previous thread, they're super nice and they'll have it fixed for you in no time!

What Cassie says. Only other thing I can suggest is try shutting down your computer and restarting and then try the shift+option+command and delete. I had some trouble trying to delete locked files in a sparsebundle from Time Machine & that finally worked after some perseverance.

Whenever something like this happens, I try shutting down and then restarting. I have had something similar happen when I tried to empty the trash and was told in a message that the file was in use. It took shutting down to get it to delete.

Point to it with ctrl + click and see where it originated from (like Lynn said "get info"). It might be a .trashes file from one of your EHD's. I have no idea what this means though, except I know it goes away when I remove the EHD! I still have a lot of learning to do on these macs!
