Default Tamron Lens

I was wondering if anybody knew anything about Tamron lenses in general and this lens in particular
#AF18-270mm/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) Macro
It just sounds really good, it's pricey but if it's worth it I might consider it. Any ideas?

Anke, I have the tamron 18-20 50mm 1.8. I rarely EVER take it off the camera. It is a great lens and I've never had a problem with it. I'm not a professional so I don't do indoor photography with lights or anything, but boy does it perform with animals.

Anke, I have the Tamron 28-300 lens and I love it. The lens that you are speaking of was introduced about 6 months after I got mine. Since I won mine at the CPR Conference, the money was not an issue. I think that if I was buying one now I might choose the 18-270 because I love to shoot close up.

I looked at their website and found this description
Tamron Lenses; Award Winning Conventional, Digital Lenses
I can't say I understand what they are saying. I don't know if the lens would fit my Nikon D300.

Anke I just looked at my local camera store site and it appears that there is one for the Nikon and the Canon. Here is the link to dp's review of it.Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC Lens Review: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review
Hope this helps.

I have the 28 - 300mm 1:3.5 - 6.3 MACRO. I've had it for ages . . . used it on my old Canon Rebel film camera and now on my Canon D50. It has been a work horse for me ... unfortunately I dropped it back in June and although I stll use it, it is a bit wonky now.

I will be interested to see how you and Merr like the 18 - 270 as I'm in the market for a new lens.

edited to say . . . I just googled the Tamron 18 - 270 and this DD thread is number five on google!

I HAD the Tamron 28-105 2.8 lens (I think those are the correct numbers). I dropped it a couple of years ago and the lens shattered (boo) but I did love it and at the time it went to camera heaven, it was 8 years old and had operated wonderfully.
It was a fast, clear, great addition to my collection. I think they make a great product and you probably can't go wrong.

I also have the 28 - 300mm 1:3.5 - 6.3 MACRO (for about 4 years now) & love it - It almost never came off my camera until recently when I bought my 70-200 2.8. I still use the Tamron for most day activities (such as the San Antonio photo walk). I think the Tamron's focus isn't quite as sharp as the Canon lenses but, honestly I wonder if that is not just my imagination. I know that I still use my Tamron a bunch and am not considering replacing it with a Canon. I do know this, I have NEVER regretted buying the Tamron over another lens.
