Default I finally took it out of the box

I've had the Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR Camera Outfit w/ EF-S 18-55mm / 55-250mm for a little over three weeks now. The first week or so, I didn't bother taking it out of the box. I had to convince myself it was ok and that I didn't make a big mistake. The second week I took it out of the box started familiarizing myself with the buttons and settings and taking lots of shots of the back of my son's head, he thinks he has to be dressed and in the mood to have his picture taken. This past week my DD and I went to visit family in NC and I got lots of practice. Mostly shots of her but a few on my nieces and nephews as well. It's my first SLR and I"M LOVING IT! Even with my limited skills I think I got some pretty good shots and I rarely used the Auto setting at all. But I 'm hating that I really didn't learn how to properly use a P&S, so needless to say I have miles to go. I'm signing up for a photography 101 class and I think the class also teaches a little editing in PSE.

Good for you Angela! I had to smile when you said you left it in the box so long and then snapped the back of your sons head.... !!! LOL!! I would have ripped it out of the box faster than you could have said snap!
Can't wait to see your photos - I know it feels like "a lot" right now (I know it still does to me!) - do a class, read books, photograph *all the time* and you'll be a pro in no time! Have fun!

I just assumed you had some amazing camera based on your amazing LOs. How have you been able to do such great stuff without a DSLR?!!

Love the lessons and the books - but nothing has helped as much as Project 365. My shots aren't sublime by a long ways, but taking pictures every single day has helped my understand the camera a lot better.

Good luck and have fun!

Woo hoo, Angela! After a few months shooting with a DSLR, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

Thanks for the encouragement ladies! Aino I've been reading and snapping when I can. It's definitely a lot but it's been fun so far, I need to get out and get creative and find additional subjects to shoot. Ahhh Esther how sweet! My p&s is a Canon A540 (love Canon products, very user friendly) and a few of my LO's featuring my DS, those pictures are from his portfolio and were taken by a professional.

I'm sure the ladies around here will help you with all those new needs

OMG I can so relate to leaving it in the box for a while. I do that all of the time!
