Question Kay

I am so into digital scrapping. I have had some printed professionally, but at AU$1.50 to AU$2 each, it can be rather expensive, so I tend to keep mine on my computer. I would like to show them off and want to know if there is such a thing as a Scapbooking Digital Photo Frame that has at least an 8" x 8" (actual screen size) square screen format to show off these digital pages at their best? Most photo frames are not square and are 3:4 or 16:9 format and I wonder if this will distort the picture as it seems to do if I try to show my scrap pages as a "desktop" on my computer. Also some frames limit the size of each photo to 1.5mb, (which in the case of scrapping is not very much) for optimum slide performance. Has anyone any ideas? Thanks Kay.

I know that people have been on the lookout for the square digital frames and I don't think there exist unfortunately =( I have no experience with the other frames but you should be able to adjust the size under the 1.5mb... not sure what it will look like on the screen. I'm sure somebody has done this.

Best of luck!!!

Trust me to want something that is not available! Thanks Jen. Surely there is some entreprenaureal person out there who could take this idea and run with it. I find the problem of "showing off" ones work is the main drawback with digital scrapping. As I said printing is expensive and showing the pages at 12 x 12 is by far the best way to keep the detail sharp. Here's hoping! Kay.

Don't know of any manufacturer's yet that do square digital frames but if you check out framebug.com, he has a Do-It-Yourself tutorial to change a standard 4:3 ratio digital frame into a prettier square format one using a square frame from Ikea.

Often, the frames will have an option to "Fit to Screen" where it will keep the square format of your photos and put black verticals along the sides. Not an ideal look but will work. You can do the same thing with your desktop background. Just choose the "Fit to Screen" option instead of "Stretch to fit screen".

Thank you for your reply Heather. Will look into that site and check out IKea. However I am trying to avoid the "black strip" look. The fit to screen option is better than what I have been doing which is pasting my 12x12 onto a 4x6 layout, but at least that way I can control the colour of the side strips to cordinate with my page.

I've heard of people buying old laptops off of ebay and converting them to frames...

I display mine on my digi frame. I never even worried about it not being full frame. (obviously it wasn't set to the stretch thingy or I would have freaked). I love watching it run through them.
