I am still trying to figure out mine but I gravitate to your 3 as well.
I find that I also love the ones when someone's eyes are looking straight at the camera. They don't necessarily have to be facing the camera but eyes looking at it so exactly as you said, you feel you are making that connection with someone in the photo. For the ones where they aren't, I like them if I can capture it so that you feel as though you are experiencing whatever they are experiencing as well.. like looking at something specific or connecting with an expression they have which isn't eye on. An experience capture. I am finding that I am trying to capture more of a dramatic fairy tale quality than a whimsical fairy tale quality. I am finding this something I am trying to capture more with post processing than photo composition to begin with. I try to capture the above and then process it to give the dramatic fairy tale quality. When you capture your style, what style of post processing do you find you gravitate towards? I am having more problems with I have the photo, now what post processing look to achieve with it? |

My SIL and I are so different. She wants a far away shot so she can remember all the details about where we were located, what objects were around us and who else was there. I want the close-up. I want to see the emotions and the expression of the subject.
With nature or travel photography, I usually do both so I can have the whole scene but also a close-up of what was really important or cool that I saw.

I love photos that seem to push the pause button of life, where is seems a moment later life just went on. So I tend more toward a photojournalistic approach in taking photos where I am observing what is going on and not usually directing it, but this may also be because my two usualy subjects are 2 and 3 and it is hard to get them to sit still and look at the camera LOL! But I also like to try and take posed portraits as well.
Donitab, what photography class are you taking? Is it an online class I am always on the look out for new classes to take

I'm not sure really, I tend to look at subjects I can do pages about, so I want both detail and surroundings, I guess. I also like strange things, like that caterpillar with the waterdrop or just odd stuff.
I too am more concerned about getting the shot to look halfway decent, so I don't really have the time yet to concern myself with anything else. I sure hope this will get better with time and practice! Plus Katrina's class makes me very hopeful for both!!!!

I love, love, love photos from behind. I can't quite pinpoint what is so appealing to me about them, but I just love them. There's something of a timeless quality about them.
I also love photos that have great depth of field. I'm also hoping Katrina's class will make me a better photographer!

I love close-ups, tight crops on faces. Love people absorbed in something other than the camera but also looking straight at the camera.

Me neither- i have no idea. I know that I love everything everyone's already mentioned, but i don't know what my "go to" thing is. Maybe macro/bokeh... i would LOVE to take awesome, close up & edgy portraits. 6 months into Project 365, maybe it's "Still Lifes"... heh heh.

I have always preferred people photographs over anything else. But as I'm starting to do a bit more practicing with my camera that's slowly changing. I'm taking more photos of "things".
And I love taking photos of animals and all their quirky natures.
