Oh wow !! What a nice gift! Congratulations - LR will change your photography - I guarantee it!
I recommend just playing around with it - download some presets - have fun. It is a powerful tool. (There are thread around here with great links for presets, if you can't find them, I will post some of my favorites). |

I watched tutorials on adobe's website that got me started. Lots of info out there and it is an amazing program. I don't know what I did without it!

Happy belated! I think it just depends on your learning process. I learn by doing, so that's how I learned Photoshop and Lightroom, just messing around until I had it all figured out.
There are some awesome Presets out there for LR too! (Think Actions for Photoshop) Have fun with it

I bought Kelby's book and love it. I am already able to do so much more with my photos and I'm not even halfway through it yet!

I already love it! I have been working on some old B&Ws that I used in my DH's album here: Another for DH - Digital Scrapbooking Ideas - DesignerDigitals. I was really happy with the results, even though I literally have no idea what I am doing with LR yet-- if it comes out looking good, it is truly just a happy accident so far!
I found Lynda.com and plan to investigate that once I have finished looking at some of the Adobe videos. Thanks to all for your suggestions!
