Doesn't this rebate just say "buy me, please"?

So like, is this all I am going to need.....for the next few years....and am I right that there is no auto focus on this lens. (and why do people write lense? ) HELP ME<><><><><><>resist that dang Amazon button. at least til tomorrow.

Oh Patricia, my dear. From someone who knows, don't ever lead your husband to think you're done. Don't you know by now that there's always something more?

Myra, you are TOOO sweet. Thank you. Happily, the husband (whom I married at 50, after quite a lot of shopping) doesn't make the purchase decisions or financing!! So MUCH more free that way....It's only my inner ....what? .... o, yes, I know...anti-greed thing....which is getting much quieter by the minute.

No idea why people write lense it always makes me smile though!

The 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS DEFINITELY has auto focus, sweet beautiful smooth flawless auto focus. It is a BIG and HEAVY lens but completely worth it. I rented it last year and LOVED it! Not a walking around everyday for hours at a time kind of lens but definitely one for a much bigger camera bag

You girls are really a bad influence on each other! But you are all definitely worth it
I'll stir the pot a bit...as long as Canon is offering rebates, why not get a macro lens, the 85mm, a fish eye, the 24-70, oh, and a speedlite, too!
Moo ha ha...you'll never stop wanting!
I'll be here to hold your hands through withdrawal.

that 70-200 lens was on my list to buy in Aug, BUT for $200 rebate I guess I can buy it in July! I just bought my speedlite last week - one week too early for the rebate - if I'd only known!

Love my speedlite with the Gary Fong diffuser - well, worth the money & besides you feel super important walking around with that on your camera!

Thanks Patricia for enabling us even more. These are good rebates.
I borrowed my friends Canon D30 the other day and am smitten. I've been looking on Craigslist for deals. I think I want a Canon D40 and a 70-200mm lens and I might as well throw in a Mac desktop. But with this economy it's a matter of wants and needs.
I will say my birthday is in August but I asked for an early b-day present from my parents. I bought a shootsac. If I do say so myself, I look pretty spiffy!

so, had the amazo. Site open all day but made myself wait until I had finished this really big, sort of scary piece of work on my Dad's estate. You know, reward concept. So I finally finish this six month project and go to the site to buy it and they are ALL gone. Amazon sold out...... But they have contacts. I have to wait a few days longer but I will have the lens and the shopping is over. And the learning begins. Thank you fellow junckies.

Have fun with your new toy Patricia.

I am wanting a speedlite for myself and now seems like a good time to invest. Does anyone have some suggestions. I really want the 580, but wondering if I should stick with the 430 since I did just get a new lens.

If you can afford it go with the 580. The 430 is only a slave and while a good lens nice to have the master if you ever want to do studio work.

Thanks Katrina. I had pretty much decided on the 580, but I needed someone to help me justify the extra cost. (And convince my husband. He He)

Patricia,

funny you should ask, I was just going through old threads this morning and found one from march 07 titled Fong's lightsphere! Go check it out. If you search the threads for gary fong it pulls up several.

You guys are so bad!! I have the 580 Speedlite and a Gary Fong Lightsphere. Used them a couple of weekends ago to do some stuff at church. Only one comment on the lightsphere-was from another photographer. Since I got a new 22" monitor for mother's day I need to stay away from Amazon!!

Patricia,
I bought the EF 70?200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens last year for my nephews football games - just what I needed for low light sports action. The pictures are staggering, but so is the weight of that lens, it could double as a lethal weapon. I ended up buying a monopod so I could steady the camera and a really big camera bag (although the lens does come with it's own bag).
I call the lens my press pass, the officials thought I was with the newspaper and they let me on the field, I never did correct them and enjoyed the sidelines action the entire season.
Hope you enjoy the lens as much as I do and thanks for posting the rebates.

So true & honestly, before photography interest, I wondered why people had butter dishes on their cameras!

Patricia - garyfonginc.com has some great videos on what the different diffusers do & under what circumstances you would use them - also great instructions on HOW to use it.
