Default Canon 24-70L, f/2.8 Vs. 24-105L, f/4, IS

Ok, I am on the list for the Canon 5D Mark II at Amazon. I went with the 24-105L, f/4, IS lens. I talked to about a dozen web sites....including the infamous Broadway Photo ---don't go there. Amazon (where I had gift certificates) or Calumet (which Kerry recommended) are the best and also B&H in NYC (and on the web).

I don't know how long it will take but the cameras are shipping again.

Here is a very good review of the two lens.

I went with the 5D over the Rebel which was released just this week. I decided the full censor, the better construction, the higher pixels (mainly for cropping) and other issues won out over $ and time. (who knows when that new Rebel will be out.)

Thanks for all the information and support. I'll join Kerry's report when I get it.

Oh don't even get me started on Broadway Photo....I could use a few choice words to describe them.

Anyways, Yay on your new purchase! How exciting!

Whoohoo! Congrats on your decision!

Want to figure out what I should get for a flash next? I am so lost on even knowing how to begin or what to do when I do decide on one and get it.

Just weaseled my way deep into Amazon customer service and it will likely be early MAY before I get it. They won't charge my card til then so I can be saving! Other sites have a few but most are already promised to people on "their" list!.

Again, thanks for all you help.

Laura!!! you are a temptress!! I checked the B&H site (they're well known for being great and I have bought from their store when in NYC.) because the plante5d site said they got them this morning but they were gone. Everybody has wait lists and they fill those first and then...there are no more.

The blog however, is very confirming of my choice. I've got a $500 gift certificate at Amazon and with no shipping or tax and their price I will have to wait. I deal with them all the time and trust that they will honor the price and get it to me....eventually. I'll be saving and learning.

Oh, yeah, with a $500 gift certificate I would definitely wait for Amazon, too. I'm just a little envious of your choice--should be fabulous!
