Hi Sam. I am making this one
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php...type=tag_title for my new twin nieces. I am Knitting it from ( Homespun ) yarn in green . It is very soft. I am knitting a rectangle shape and then fastening the edges together. I thought about using a silky ribbon to lace it together. I wanted to make them "two peas in a pod" I have looked forever for a pattern for a cocoon like the one you've pictured and still no luck. I think I will ask the yarn shop to design one for me. I will pass it along . but only bigger for

Very, very cute! Sam, I am betting it won't really be too short--I think it is just stretched onto the baby's head. With the right yarn it would have some give and stretch easily. Any good knitting shop should be able to tell you choices of yarn that would be really soft, full of that texture and have enough stretch to pull up in back. LOVE IT!!

Sam, I have made mine using the Knifty Knitter. Walmart and almost any craft store like AC Moore and Michaels sell them. http://www.provocraft.com/products/d...=&item=21-0100 You use the green loom for the cocoons and you can also use the smaller looms for cute little hats for infants and toddlers. It really is super easy. Trust me, I am definitely not a knitter.

I don't know the first thing about knitting (my Mom tried to teach me way back when) or using a loom...but those are so cute!!! Can't wait to see a photo once you have made one...might need to find a pattern for my sister who can knit..just in case there are some more little grand babies in the future!

HI Sam, I am back. I found a forum where a really nice lady wrote about how she would knit this cocoon. http://ny-image3.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.43659379.jpg
here are the directions she provided: it looks like a oversize hat--use large needles and a chunky yarn (the yarn looks like a think and thin spun yarn--) Use a slightly larger needle than suggested for yarn (ie, if they suggest 10.5--use an 11 (if you knit tight, use a size 13) cast on 4, join into a round, Increase 4 on first round after that, 1 round no increase, 1 round with 8 increases. continue increasing till you have a 20 to 28 inch tube. knit straight (plain rounds) until tube is about 20 inches long. (alternately, work the rounds in garter stitch--1 round Knit (increase roung) 1 round purl (plain/no increase)/after you have enough stitches, continue in garter (with no increases on knit rounds) bind off loosely. I also found this picture. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_AypoGhHn9b...os+33803-1.jpg I like it better and this photo gives a pretty good idea about how to make it. If you knit, you should be able to do this. I plan to try my hand at it. I will let you know if I get results! LOL I need to shop for yarn too! That is awesome yarn!
