Default What should I use?

I have to take some photos of things at my dh's office - mostly equipment. I have never shot in RAW mode but I was wondering if it was best to use RAW in this situation?

I have an iMac and I use iPhoto 08. I will be working with the photos in PS CS4. My camera is a Sony alpha 100 (I know it is not widely used around here). Do I need any other software to use RAW?

Oh my camera has an option of shooting a RAW and an jpg at the same time. I wonder if that would be a good option since I don't know much about RAW.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi there!

I have a Sony A200, and it came with a CD with RAW processing software called "Image Data Converter." I installed it when I got my camera. I don't know what CS4 does in terms of RAW, since the Sony format is proprietary (.arw).

I shoot in the RAW+JPEG mode all the time now. I use the preview feature on the JPEGs, and the delete them when I process the RAW.

Hope that helps! Glad to see another member of the ever-growing Sony community!

I just started a new thread RAW vs Jpeg. Maybe some answers will help you. Seems to be a hot topic! Just type in RAW vs Jpeg on the internet and start reading multitudes of answers!
