Question Katrina Question...

Ok so no surprise this is coming from me.

Regarding my POTD at flickr, I did have my camera setting on my desk because I get major blur when I hand hold my camera (using the settings we all keep discussing). I understand what you mean now about it being F9 which means closed down.

I use a Nikon D60 with a 18-55mm lens. 1:3.5-5.6

By reading your feedback I think I might have figured something out...but I'm not sure.

I think because of my lens of choice...I can't go lower than 5.6? If that's the case it means I'm somewhat restricted to what I shoot. That I might have to shot with added light? Because I still get a lot of blur when I shoot at 5.6.

Hmmm.

I hope this makes sense

Also, with my camera (maybe all cameras??) when I use A mode I can't control my shutter speed. So again I am feeling somewhat restricted.

You've got it Michele! wohooo!!

Your lens 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 means that when you are at a focal length of 18mm you can shoot at f/3.5 (your widest aperture) but when you are zoomed out to 55mm your widest aperture is f/5.6

In A mode you can't control your shutter speed, the camera chooses it. A means aperture priority so the aperture "takes priority" and is then all you can control.

If you want to have complete control then switch on over to M (manual) and you get to control everything!

Hope this helps!! Love your questions, keep them coming!

Cool...thanks a bunch. I think I'm getting there.

I did actually switch to manual but I think I prefer A. In "A" mode I do have some control over the shutter speed via my ISO setting. So There is just a lot to remember and a lot to practice with.

Many thanks,
