Default Photo Info You Requested

Patricia requested info on this shot, so here it is

I took this with my 50mm lens ISO 100, SS 1/250, f/5.6. I wanted to get most of him in focus and stop the motion. I was laying on the ground just far enough in front of him that he wouldn't jump on my head and so I could focus on him. I also was angled so that the sun was to my left so I didn't have to deal with backlighting. (I tried the flair thing at another angle, but still haven't mastered that)

And Sarah asked about this photo, specifically the photo in the bottom right corner

I also took this photo with my 50 mm lens. ISO 800, SS 1/50, f/1.4. My living room has light from an east facing window that was at his back. I bumped up my ISO since there wasn't a lot of light coming in. I followed the rule of never having my SS less than the reciprocal length of my lens. I think I got a fairly steady shot because I was seated beside him on the sofa with a fairly steady hand. In a larger photo you can see that the focus was on the crook of his arm, but in the small photo you lose that technical oops!

I get my best photos of Ian when he is doing his thing and oblivious to me!
Hope this helps ladies

Just gorgeous, Katrina! I missed that LO (along with about a zillion others lately!), and the photos are just fabulous ... as always.

I wanted you to know that you, Katrina, are personally responsible for my taking the plunge and getting off Auto at Christmas. I haven't mastered it by any stretch of the imagination, but, like the blind pig who occasionally finds an acorn, I did get some DOF shots that I adore. Still struggling with the poor lighting inside my house and the subsequent grainy effects of high ISO settings, but I am enjoying myself in the process. So, Katrina, my camera and I thank you for your wonderful instruction and your encouragement in expanding our horizons. You are a PEACH, and I really look forward to your photography chats this year!!

P.S. Just added some of my shots from the first day of the 365 Project to the DD Flicker site.

Thanks so much for sharing the information. You must be inspiring a lot of people besides myself! I too am trying to work on taking photos without automatic settings, and I love to see your photos - they are so inspiring, and are a great teaching tool.
Your son has the cutest face ever BTW! My husband now knows who I am talking about when I say Katrina K... ( look at this photo that Katrina took, or I am attending a photo chat by Katrina LOL ) and you are probably responsible for an increased sales of 50 mm lenses and should be getting a kick back from the manufacturer : )

Katrina - do you try to shoot indoors without a flash? When you were talking about lighting in your house it made it seem that way...did I infer correctly?

Thank you so much, Katrina! We have almost no natural light on our house, so I think it's just going to be impossible to hand-hold my camera in my house. Either that or make my kids sit still all the time. Ha-ha! Thank you again---you've inspired me to try harder!

Wow, woman, thanks!! Just found this and am soaking it up. Ok, I'm pretty easy off flash and now I am going off program!! The camera is as multifaceted as PSCS3 is...something new to learn and play with every day. I gave my grandson his first camera for Christmas and it was really a hit. He's five but we have already decided we are going to travel the world and take photos.....ya'll wanta come, too?

Getting a Canon rebel is next on my list! Just finished crossing off the iPhone, which I guess I wanted more than the camera. LOL

These are some great pictures! I am very inspired and can't wait to join in on these chats.

You got it right! I am a HUGE fan of shooting without my flash when I can. These were both taken without the flash, but sometimes you've just got to!

I found this thread very helpful in terms of ISO, I just needed a reminder to take this feature off of auto! Fab photos Katrina! Very inspiring.
