Talking Photo assignment ideas...

Recently I've been taking a photography class at a local community school and absolutely love it. Although I've finished the 8 week course, those of us who wanted to come back and help out with the new set of beginners was more than welcomed to come back. Each week we have photo assignments for those of us considered "advanced", and the beginners are welcome to join in on the fun as well.

I wanted to come up with some new, fun assignments and figured I'd ask some of you here for some ideas.

So if you have any neat ideas, please pass along my way. I'd so appreciate it.

I'm not a photographer by any stretch of the imagination, but how about photographing a meal? Food photography fascinates me -- perhaps I should amend that to say food fascinates me!

Some other suggetions:

Shelves in a store (office supply, grocery store)
Leaves (not necessarily autumn, but close-ups of green leaves)
Portraits with interesting crops
Photos from above or below to change perspective

Or you could do a photo scavenger hunt, such as this:

Just a few ideas! Makes me want to take a photography class!

I love this idea! In fact we are going to talk a bit about food photography during next week's photo chat

You can also check our flickr group for some fun ideas as well as other posts in the photog forum.

I love scavenger hunts and word/symbol photography too!

Very good ideas Linda, I especially like the scavenger hunt. Seems like loads to fun.
Katrina, I took a look back at some of the earlier challenges and will incorporate a few of those as well.

Thanks so much for the input.

I love the idea of Urban Photography (people in their elements).. especially people's photographs of or with a graffiti background.. so that could tie into the scavenger hunt, one stop could be the portrait with graffiti background.

I would use some abstracts that require interpretation or creativity. These would give some very interesting and varied results:

Contentment
Fear
Warmth
Joy
Eternity
Dreams
Light
Thrill
Unity
Fun
Uniqueness
Growth
Become
Life
New
Old
Interest
Curiosity
Intensity
Perseverance
Colors (each color can be a challenge: red, blue, green, brown, pink, etc.)

WOW...such great ideas...thanks so much for the response.
I picked some from various website site and came up with some that I think will be neat.
1) Set in Stone - photos of various stone items.
2) Reflections
3) Emotion
4) Song Titles - photos that represent a song title
5) Birds eye view (when my husband saw this as a possible assignment so he had the idea of me in a tree stand...yeah right!)
6) What do I do? (I thought this would be neat. Of course without jeopardizing confidentiality)
7) Signs - funny, retro, or unusual
8) Scavenger hunt - Thank you Linda for that great idea.

Maureen....thank you for the ideas and I'm going to pull some from your list as well.

Your "assignments" sound great, Melissa. Wish I were taking your class! I can't take credit for the scavenger hunt idea -- it was the product of more creative minds than mine in the DD gallery -- but I thought it was so cool. I still plan to give it a whirl.

Maybe we'll start some challenges here soon. I'll be more apt to do it now that I know how my camera works ....ha ha
